Always sit at the back when at a conference/convention

Newer people/less-experienced people sit at the front or in the middle of the crowd. The people you want to network with almost always sit at the back, and walk outside to meet with people, etc.

Sit toward the back, and they think you're one of them, or at least wonder. Strike up a conversation with them, and at least get some mentor-ship advice while at the conference.

The information provided during the lecture is important, sure, but usually not as important as the informal connections and negotiations happening among the big players at the back of the room.
